Library Goals, Objectives, and Functions

Goals

Guided by the vision-mission statement of the UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (ISSI), the goals of the UP ISSI Library are to provide access to knowledge resources on significant developments in entrepreneurship and Philippine industries, and to deliver information services in support of the Institute’s mandate.

Objectives

As primary information provider of the Institute, the Library aims to provide current as well as retrospective collection in the fields of entrepreneurship and Philippine industries. Specifically, it strives to:

    1. Collect, manage, preserve, and provide access to information resources in core subjects based on the projects and programs of the Institute;
    2. Preserve and make accessible the knowledge generated by the Institute through effective archiving and digitization programs;
    3. Provide all types of academic, technical, and documentary support to render appropriate information services to the specialists; and
    4. Provide physical and digital spaces for knowledge sharing, information access, and collaboration.

Functions

To achieve the objectives as mentioned above, the library shall perform the following functions:

1.  Access to Resources

a. Select, organize, store and retrieve current information required by the clients.

b. Process acquired collection using the standard classification system.

2. Archives

a. Appraise, organize, and digitize collections and records that have permanent or enduring value to the Institute.

3. Information Services

a. Provide research assistance to clients and respond to queries and make a retrospective search of literature as per clients’ demand.

b. Provide Current Awareness Service (CAS) regarding new arrivals and latest services to the clients and Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) services as per subject interest and requirement of clients.

c. Offer document delivery service

d. Compile bibliographies, union catalogs, documentation lists dealing with entrepreneurship and Philippine industries.

e. Provide indexing and abstracting services

4. Coworking Space

a. Provide open, accessible, and engaging coworking space, and an interactive library website.
