MSME Hub:
A Guide for Filipino Entrepreneurs
How much amount do I need? Where can I get funds? These are the common questions that entrepreneurs ask when starting and even expanding their businesses. Usually, there are two pitfalls to avoid when raising funds for your business. The first is that you might overestimate your financing need, resulting in paying interest on money that you’re not using. While the second is the opposite, you might underestimate your financing need, which may put your entire business at risk since you have to screw up everything you are working on.
To avoid these pitfalls, you need to determine how much you need. Then, come up with a reasonable estimate. If you are starting a new business, keep in mind that your capital requirement is the sum of your estimated pre-operating expenses, fixed capital investment requirements, initial working capital requirements, and allowance for unexpected costs (contingency).
Starting points:
- Determine how much money you need for a given time period.
- Find funding options that can help you secure that amount in ways that are best for your business right now.
